About Blackline Coatings: a luxury concrete coatings company run by Judah Reynolds, serving Chicago and the western suburbs of Illinois.

Built on the part nobody sees
A blacked out van, a grinder and a rule about prep that we do not bend. That is most of what there is to know about us.
Four years watching floors fail for the same reason
Blackline Coatings is a luxury concrete coatings company working out of Elburn and across Chicago and the western suburbs. We install decorative coating systems and we restore concrete that has been let go. Judah Reynolds started Blackline after eight years in the trades and four of them in concrete coatings, because he kept seeing the same thing: floors sold on the finish and failed on the prep.
So that is where our work goes. Every slab is ground back mechanically, every crack and every joint is dealt with before a drop of resin is mixed, and the coating goes down over concrete that is ready for it. That part is invisible once the floor is finished. It is also the only reason the floor is still there in ten years.
Blackline is deliberately small. Judah is on every job, which is the only way to guarantee the prep was done the way it was quoted. That also means we run one or two projects at a time rather than five, and the calendar is genuinely the limit on what we take on.

What we will not skip
- Mechanical grinding, never acid etch. Diamond grinding is what opens the concrete up so the resin keys into it. Etching does not, and that is why coatings peel off in sheets a year later.
- Cracks and joints get dealt with first. Chased out, filled and made stable. A crack coated over is a crack you will be looking at again by spring.
- Full refusal broadcast on flake floors. Flake goes on until the floor will not take any more, so the base colour never reads through and there are no thin patches.
- Polyaspartic topcoats, two of them. Not one thin seal coat. This is what stops hot tyre pickup and what you are actually walking on.
- Coved base and cut lines. Where the floor meets the wall gets coved so there is no dirt trap, and the edge at the door gets cut clean.
- We tell you if the slab is not worth coating. Before we quote it, not after we have taken a deposit.
None of this is visible once the floor is finished. All of it is the reason the floor is still there in ten years, and it is the reason we are not the cheapest quote you will get.
If you want your floor coating done right and for it to last, these are the guys. They don't cut corners in their process or the material materials they use. Before and after pictures tell the story.
